Search Engine Optimization
Being placed in the organic listings is one way to increase
revenue. For one thing it does not cost anything when someone clicks
on these listings and secondly people are 72% *(source from Getting
Noticed on Google) more likely to click on an organic listing than pay
per click. Organic listings are unique in that they are voted into position
using algorithms based on inward links, content, keywords,
title text, meta tags and many more.
How to optimize a website
There are many factors that you can control to increase the popularity
of a website. Below is an outline of things to consider.
Content:
Have great content. This is number one! You are writing for
the audience but also the search engines. If there is great content
return visitors will increase the ranking in organic search results.
If the content is informative and useful to people, then they are more
likely to bookmark your website in there browser. An online
presence will leave a first impression. You have just a few seconds
to grab the attention of your customers before they decide to move on
to the next website. Take advantage of our Search Engine Marketing
(SEM) and spiff up the quality content on your website.
Title Pages:
Title Pages - Make sure the title pages filled out and are relevant
to what is on the page. A title appears in the top left corner of your
browser. It also gives a summarized glace of the page that you are looking
at. Many search engines will look at these and if they are written well
it will improve the quality of the search results.
Meta Tags:
Meta Tags - Meta tags include; meta keywords, a meta description, and
the title page (see above). Keywords are words that the user is most
likely to search for and also should be relevant to what is on the page
and overall theme of the site. Nowadays meta keywords are given less
weight because of spamming. Web developers found that repeating
keywords over, and over in the meta information (and body) would increase
the organic listing results. This is known as a black hat technique
and the complex algorithms of Google™, Yahoo®, MSN™
and Ask.com™ are able to decipher this and can blacklist your
website from ever appearing in the organic listings. Do not use this
method. Meta descriptions are a brief overview of what is on the page.
See the example below.
Alternate Text Tags:
Alternate Text Tags - An alternate text tag (alt tag) is a written text
description of an image. Imagine a website without any images and all
you could see is text. A search engine does not know that the grass
is green, in an image so you have to describe it through the alt img
tag. This is also great way to place keywords into your website.
Examples of past work include:
Crandall.com
Optimized for the keyword "pail fillers". This business creates
manual and CNC automated machines used for filling pails, drums and
more.
Ventless-Gas-Logs.com
Owned by Recreational Warehouse in Buffalo, NY this site was optimized
for "ventless gas logs".
EconomyExterminators.com

Optimization.
